Healthy Hips & Spine (Yoga)

This class is taught by:

Jodee Dixon

Jodee was initially drawn to yoga in 1998 for the benefits of relieving back pain. The feeling of physical well-being led to an awareness of how yoga can nurture the mind and body. This personal experience fuels Jodee’s wish to share yoga with each student willing to learn.

Jodee has studied with senior teachers Matthew Sweeney and Iain Grysak. In 2013, Jodee completed 7 weeks of study with Iain Grysak in Whitehorse.  Recently Jodee has begun studing with Fiona Stang.  She is a registered Yoga Teacher through Yoga Alliance, receiving RYT 200 in 2008 and currently E-RYT 200, with over 3000 hours of teaching experience. Jodee is also the lead Instructor for the Teacher Training program at The Yoga Path.

Through experience with personal injuries, balancing yoga practice with life and overcoming challenges in her own yoga practice, Jodee has developed the ability and compassion to assess and teach yoga in a truly accessible method. Common encouragement from Jodee: “Rather than wanting a good practice or the right circumstances, just begin practicing yoga and the details will work themselves out as you begin to feel the benefits”.

Carrie Amott

Carrie began her journey with yoga in 2004 at the age of 19 while living in New Orleans. Over the next decade and a half her practice would lead her to discover many styles of yoga over a range of many different places. In 2012 she moved to Southeast Alaska, and in 2016 she discovered Ashtanga yoga and adopted it as her personal practice. In 2017 she met Jodee Dixon and began a partnership in an effort to bring yoga to those in Juneau struggling with the mental and physical disease of addiction. In June 2018 she completed her 200 hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training under Jodee at The Yoga Path, where she now has the honor to teach.

Carrie's fascination with yoga began because she wanted to attain both the physical and mental benefits of the practice. And over time, the breath and postures have led to refinement of her awareness of both the inner-self and the exterior-world. In many instances this has allowed her to find her way out of imbalance and back to a state of wellness.

For Carrie yoga is a portal to contentment, balance, strength, fluidity, enlightenment, and access to unspoken truth and extended vitality (to name a few). She is grateful that in this life she has the opportunity to help guide others on their own yoga path.

Mike Miller

Mike was introduced to yoga right here in Juneau, and has been practicing since 2007. He learned that living an active outdoors life style can come with some physical stress and injury to the body. He sought yoga for improving flexibility and overall well-being. Mike soon realized that there is more to yoga than just the physical aspects of the practice. He grew fond of the powerful linking of postures and full rhythmic breathing. He has learned his foundation of yoga from local Juneau teachers such as
Tammy Davis and Jodee Dixon. He is currently studying with certified Ashtanga Yoga teacher, Stephanie Quigley. Mike completed an intensive 200hour Ashtanga Yoga based training in 2013 with Ally Ford at White Orchid in Clearwater, Florida. Mike teaches a traditional Ashtanga based yoga class, focusing on the Tristhana method, which refers to “the union of three places of attention: posture, breathing, and looking place”. Mike is a registered teacher with the yoga alliance.

Jennifer McFerran

Jennifer began practicing yoga in 2008. Her practiced has evolved over the years from the physical to the internal transformation of yoga. Initially she tried all different styles of yoga to see what suited her most and in 2010 she discovered Ashtanga Yoga with Lou Gaccione in Rhode Island. She quickly fell in love with the tristana method of breath, dhristi, and asana. A couple of years later she stopped practicing due to having kids and finding it difficult to find time to practice with little ones. However, that’s when she discovered she needed it most. After her second baby was born she start picking up her practice again and really focused on the internal aspects of what the practice could do for a mother of two small children. She completed her 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training from Krysia Yoga in 2018 with a focus on the Ashtanga Lineage. She has also taken workshops and Mysore practice with Kino MacGregor, Marque Garaux, and Taylor Hunt. She continues to deepen her own practice and knowledge of yoga by studying with Jodee Dixon

Moving hips and spine incorporates core work in this class.  Enjoy connecting with your breath as you find steadiness and comfort in your expression of each posture.
