Ashtanga Yoga

Jodi Pirtle

Jodi Pirtle has been practicing yoga and meditation for many years with roots in Ashtanga Yoga and Mahayana Buddhadharma. Jodi's practice continues to evolve with the intention of consistency and balance in tune with shifting internal needs and external seasons. Jodi participated in a 200 hour RYT training with Kimberly Dahlmann in 2012 and studied Ayurveda with Betty Moylan at Yoga East in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Jodi returned to Juneau in 2013 and continued her practice with Jodee Dixon and Stephanie Quigley. Jodi is inspired by many teachers along her path who are wonderful examples of living your practice and loving the 8-limbed yoga that is Ashtanga.

Courtney Sanborn

Courtney was first exposed to meditation in 1995 at the age of 14 and discovered yoga in her early-20's. Over the last 15 years she has maintained a daily yoga asana and meditation practice.

She completed her 200-hour teacher training in France under the guidance of Linda Munro and Gerald Disse at Ashtanga Yoga Paris. In 2015 she spent five months studying under Saraswati Jois, the daughter of K. Pattabhi Jois, in Mysore, India.

She is certified by B.N.S Iyengar to teach pranayama and mudras.

In 2017 and 2018, she studied Ashtanga under the guidance of Ajay Kumar in Mysore, India. She considers Ajay and Jodee Dixion to be her primary asana teachers.

She practices the technique of Vipassana meditation and has completed multiple ten day retreats and was an active member of the Zen Buddhist community during her time in Fairbanks, Alaska.

In addition to yoga and meditation she has studied Past Life Regression Therapy, Transomatic Ayurvedic massage and Yoga Nidra under B. Naga Kumar of Mysore, India. She considers Kumar to be her main spiritual teacher.

From a young age Courtney has been fascinated with Traditional Astrology and has recently intensified her astrological studies under her teacher Alejandro Diaz of Mexico City.

Courtney's passions lie in Meditation, Pranayama, Ashtanga Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Traditional Astrology, and Zen Buddhism. Recently, she has developed a strong interest in Yin Yoga.

For the last two years Courtney has divided her time between Alaska, India and France.

Ashtanga Yoga classes flow through a sequence to get you focusing on breath, building strength, concentrating inward and forgetting everything else. We follow the brilliant Ashtanga Primary and Second series, sometimes splitting the series or spending more time on a particular posture or aspect. On occasion exploring and learning techniques to find a change in areas that are stubborn. This is much more than physical exercise, through moving our bodies we reveal areas and habits that need balancing and resolve.
